Beautiful Gate

The Beautiful Gate was one of the entrances to the Jerusalem temple complex, mentioned in Acts 3:2 as the place where Peter and John encountered the man lame from birth who begged for alms. Most scholars identify it with the Nicanor Gate, a magnificent bronze gate on the eastern side of the Court of Women—an identification supported by Josephus, who describes it as far surpassing the silver and gold doors of the temple. It was here that Peter declared, Silver and gold have I none, but what I have I give you: in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk (Acts 3:6).
