Becher

Person Name

Name meaning: "first begotten; first fruits"

Becher (meaning first-born or young camel) is the name of two men in the Old Testament. (1.) The second son of Benjamin (Genesis 46:21), also called Bered in 1 Chronicles 7:20, whose descendants are listed as the Bachrites (Numbers 26:35). (2.) A son of Ephraim (1 Chronicles 7:20), from whose lineage the Ephraimite line descended. The dual occurrence of the name reflects its use across different tribal genealogies.
