Bedan

Person Name

Name meaning: "according to judgment"

Bedan is mentioned in 1 Samuel 12:11 as one of the judges God sent to deliver Israel—alongside Jerubbaal (Gideon), Jephthah, and Samuel—in Samuel's farewell address. His identity is uncertain: some identify him with Abdon (Judges 12:13), the judge from Pirathon; others with Barak. He is also the name of a son of Ulam of the tribe of Manasseh (1 Chronicles 7:17). The reference in Samuel is significant as an example of divine deliverance through judges in response to Israel's repentance.
