Beelzebub

Beelzebub (Greek Beelzeboul, from the Philistine god Baal-zebub of Ekron—lord of the flies) is the name given to Satan as the prince of demons in the New Testament. The Pharisees accused Jesus of casting out demons by the power of Beelzebub (Matthew 10:25; 12:24–27; Mark 3:22; Luke 11:15–19). Jesus's response—that a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand—constitutes one of his clearest assertions that his exorcisms demonstrate the arrival of God's kingdom (Matthew 12:28). The name is not found in any Hebrew text; it appears exclusively in the New Testament as a Synoptic designation for the ruler of demons.
