Beeroth
Place Name
Name meaning: "wells; explaining"
Beeroth (meaning wells) was one of the four Hivite cities—along with Gibeon, Chephirah, and Kirjath-jearim—that entered by deception into a covenant of peace with Joshua (Joshua 9:17; 18:25). Located in the territory of Benjamin, it was notable as the hometown of Baanah and Rechab, who murdered Ish-bosheth (2 Samuel 4:2), and of David's mighty warrior Naharai (2 Samuel 23:37). Exiles from Beeroth returned with Zerubbabel after the Babylonian captivity (Ezra 2:25).
