Beetle

The beetle (Hebrew hargol, meaning leaper) appears only in Leviticus 11:22, where it is listed among the four species of hopping insects permitted for food under the Mosaic food laws, alongside the locust, bald locust, and grasshopper. The precise identification of hargol is uncertain; modern translations often render it as cricket or katydid rather than beetle, since true beetles do not hop. Whatever the specific species, it belonged to the class of winged insects with jointed legs for leaping, and was considered clean for consumption.
