Bekah

The bekah (meaning half) was a Hebrew unit of weight equal to half a shekel, roughly five to six grams of silver. It is explicitly defined in Exodus 38:26 as a bekah a head, that is, half a shekel, according to the shekel of the sanctuary—the payment required of each man in the census of the wilderness. The bekah also features in Genesis 24:22 as the weight of the golden ring Eliezer gave Rebekah. As a standard weight, the bekah was used in commercial transactions and is attested by archaeological examples of inscribed stone weights.
