Bela

Bela (meaning a thing swallowed or destruction) is primarily the name of the city also called Zoar, the small city near Sodom to which Lot fled during the divine judgment that destroyed the cities of the plain (Genesis 14:2, 8; 19:20–23). The name Bela also belongs to several persons: (1.) The firstborn son of Benjamin (Genesis 46:21), whose descendants were the Belaites (Numbers 26:38). (2.) The son of Beor and first king of Edom (Genesis 36:32–33; 1 Chronicles 1:43–44). (3.) A son of Azaz, a Reubenite (1 Chronicles 5:8).
