Benaiah

Benaiah (meaning built up by Jehovah or son of the Lord) was the son of Jehoiada, the chief priest, and one of David's mightiest warriors. He commanded David's personal bodyguard—the Cherethites and Pelethites—and is renowned for three feats of exceptional valor: killing two lion-like warriors of Moab, killing a lion in a pit on a snowy day, and slaying a formidable Egyptian warrior with his own spear (2 Samuel 23:20–23; 1 Chronicles 11:22–25). He remained loyal to David during Absalom's rebellion and supported Solomon's succession against Adonijah. Solomon appointed him commander-in-chief of the army in place of Joab (1 Kings 2:35).
