Bene-jaakan

Place Name

Name meaning: "sons of sorrow"

Bene-jaakan (meaning children of Jaakan or sons of sorrow) was a wilderness encampment of Israel listed in Numbers 33:31–32 between Moseroth and Hor-haggidgad. It is the same site as Beeroth of the children of Jaakan (Deuteronomy 10:6), associated with the burial of Aaron's death and the appointment of the Levites. The Jaakan were a Horite clan in the Edomite region (1 Chronicles 1:42). The site is otherwise unidentified geographically.
