Bera
Person Name
Name meaning: "a well; declaring"
Bera (meaning gift or son of evil) was the king of Sodom at the time of the invasion of the four Mesopotamian kings under Chedorlaomer (Genesis 14:2, 8, 17, 21). He was defeated at the battle of the Valley of Siddim, which was full of bitumen pits; he and his allies fled and some fell into the pits. After Abraham's victory over the invaders and the rescue of Lot, Bera met Abraham in the Valley of Shaveh, where the king of Sodom offered Abraham the recovered goods—an offer Abraham declined to avoid the impression that Sodom had made him rich.
