Beth-jeshimoth

Beth-jeshimoth (meaning: house of wastes or house of desolations) was a town in the plain of Moab east of the Jordan, in the region of the Dead Sea. It served as one of the encampment stations of Israel near Abel-shittim during the final stages of the wilderness journey, in the fertile plain between the Jordan and the highlands of Moab. The Israelites were camped in this region when the incident of Baal-peor and the subsequent census occurred.

After the conquest, Beth-jeshimoth lay within the territory assigned to the tribe of Reuben, east of the Dead Sea. Ezekiel later includes it among the cities of Moab that would experience judgment, paired with Baal-meon and Kiriathaim, predicting that the land of Moab and Ammon would become a possession of the children of the east. The site is generally identified with Tell el-'Azeimeh near the northeastern shore of the Dead Sea.
