Buzi

Buzi, whose name means my contempt or despised of the LORD, is known in Scripture solely as the father of the prophet Ezekiel (Ezek. 1:3). The book of Ezekiel opens with the precise dating and location of the prophet's inaugural vision: in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, on the fifth day, while Ezekiel was among the exiles by the river Chebar in Babylonia, the word of the LORD came to Ezekiel son of Buzi the priest.

The identification of Ezekiel as both son of Buzi and as a priest places him within the Zadokite priestly lineage, which is reflected throughout his prophecy in his intense concern for the temple, its furnishings, its ritual purity, and the detailed vision of the restored sanctuary in chapters 40–48. Buzi himself receives no further biographical treatment in the text; his significance is entirely genealogical, establishing his son's priestly credentials and the context of Ezekiel's call to prophetic ministry in exile.
