Calcol
Person Name
Name meaning: "nourishing"
Calcol (meaning nourishing or sustaining) was a son of Zerah of the tribe of Judah and one of the four men of renowned wisdom against whom Solomon's superior wisdom was measured (1 Kings 4:31). He is listed as a son of Mahol in that passage, and identified with Chalcol in the genealogy of 1 Chronicles 2:6, where he appears among the five sons of Zerah. No narrative details are given about Calcol; his significance in Scripture is solely as a proverbial standard of wisdom surpassed by Solomon.
