Calneh

Calneh (meaning our consummation) was one of the four cities in the land of Shinar founded by Nimrod, along with Babel, Erech, and Accad (Genesis 10:10). Its precise location is debated; some scholars identify it with the Babylonian city of Nippur, while others have proposed Kullani in northern Syria. The prophets Amos (6:2) and Isaiah (10:9) refer to Calneh (or Calno) as a notable city that fell to Assyrian power, used as a warning to the complacent in Zion. In Ezekiel 27:23 it appears among the trading partners of Tyre. The city's early mention in Genesis as part of the original Mesopotamian city-state complex places it among the oldest named urban centers in the biblical record.
