Casement

A casement in Scripture refers to a latticed window or window-screen of interwoven woodwork, used in ancient Near Eastern architecture to provide light and ventilation while screening the interior from view. The word appears twice in the KJV. In Proverbs 7:6, the wise man's mother "looked through the casement" (or lattice) and observed the foolish young man being seduced by the adulteress — a narrative frame that gives the subsequent warning its dramatic vividness. In Judges 5:28, Sisera's mother "looked out at a window" (casement) watching and waiting for her son's return from battle, a scene of tragic dramatic irony given that Sisera had already been killed by Jael.
