Casluhim

Casluhim (meaning hopes of life) were a people descended from Mizraim (Egypt), son of Ham, listed among the nations of Genesis 10:13–14 and 1 Chronicles 1:12. The text notes that the Philistines came from the Casluhim, a statement that has generated considerable discussion since Deuteronomy 2:23 and Amos 9:7 identify Caphtor (likely Crete or the Aegean) as the Philistine homeland. The most common scholarly resolution is that the Casluhim and Caphtorim may have been related peoples among the Sea Peoples who migrated into Canaan, or that there was an editorial dislocation in the Genesis text. The Casluhim otherwise play no further role in biblical narrative.
