Cauls

Cauls in Isaiah 3:18 (KJV) refers to a women's head ornament or hairnet, listed among the elaborate feminine accessories condemned by the prophet Isaiah as symbols of the pride and luxury of the women of Jerusalem. The Hebrew word (shabisim) denotes a kind of ornamental headband, possibly a net or lattice of gold or precious material worn around the head. Isaiah's extended catalog of feminine luxury items (Isaiah 3:18–24) sets up the contrast with the desolation that divine judgment will bring — fine ornaments replaced by baldness, rich garments by sackcloth, and beauty by branding.
