Channel
Concept
Channel in Scripture refers to the bed or course of a river or the sea, used both literally and in poetic imagery. In Psalm 18:15 (= 2 Sam. 22:16), the channels of the sea were seen at the divine rebuke — a poetic description of God's intervention drying up the waters. Isaiah 8:7 employs the metaphor of the Assyrian army as a river overflowing its channels and flooding the land of Judah. Job 31:22 uses the shoulder-socket as an anatomical channel. The term thus covers both natural watercourses and the literary imagery of overwhelming power, divine or military, described through the movement of water.
