Chesed

Person Name

Name meaning: "as a devil, or a destroyer"

Chesed (meaning gain or, in Hitchcock, as a devil or destroyer) was the fourth son of Nahor, Abraham's brother, by his wife Milcah (Gen. 22:22). The names of Nahor's sons in Genesis 22:20–24 appear to correspond to tribal or geographic names in the region of Aram (Syria), and Chesed may be the eponymous ancestor of the Chaldeans (Hebrew Kasdim), linking the Chaldean people to Abraham's extended family through the line of Nahor. He is not mentioned elsewhere in Scripture.
