Chileab
Person
Chileab (meaning protected by the father or like the father) was the second son of David, born to him by Abigail the Carmelitess, former wife of Nabal, after David became king in Hebron (2 Sam. 3:3). In 1 Chronicles 3:1, the same son is called Daniel. Chileab is not mentioned again in the historical narrative, which suggests he died young or played no role in the succession struggles that occupied so much of David's reign. His birth to Abigail — whom David married after Nabal's death and whose wisdom had saved David from bloodguilt — gave him a notable heritage.
