Chios

Chios (meaning open or mastic) was a mountainous island in the Aegean Sea, situated about five miles off the western coast of Asia Minor (modern Turkey), approximately halfway between Smyrna and Lesbos. In Acts 20:15, Paul's ship on his final journey to Jerusalem anchored opposite Chios, passing between the island and the mainland on the way from Mitylene to Samos. The island was famous in antiquity for its wine and for the production of mastic resin. It belonged to the Roman province of Asia.
