Chisleu

Chisleu (also spelled Kislev) is the ninth month of the Hebrew religious calendar, corresponding approximately to November–December in the Gregorian calendar. The name was adopted from the Babylonian month Kislimu during or after the exile and appears twice in the Old Testament: in Nehemiah 1:1, where it records the month in which Nehemiah received the distressing news about Jerusalem's broken walls, and in Zechariah 7:1, where a delegation came to seek a prophetic word from the Lord in the fourth year of Darius. The Feast of Hanukkah (not in the Old Testament canon) is celebrated on the 25th of Chisleu, commemorating the rededication of the temple after the Maccabean revolt.
