Chozeba

Place Name

Name meaning: "men liers in wait"

Chozeba (meaning liars in wait or the place of ambush) appears in 1 Chronicles 4:22 as the home of certain men of Judah described as the men of Chozeba, and Joash and Saraph, who had dominion in Moab. It is the same place as Chezib (Gen. 38:5) and Achzib (Josh. 15:44; Mic. 1:14), a town in the Shephelah of Judah. The triple identification under different names illustrates how a single ancient site could be known by multiple designations across different periods and literary contexts in the Old Testament.
