Chun

Chun (meaning: making ready) was a city in Syria from which David took bronze after his victory over Hadadezer king of Zobah. The city is mentioned in 1 Chronicles 18:8 as one of the Syrian towns that yielded a great quantity of bronze, which Solomon later used in the construction of the temple vessels, including the bronze sea, pillars, and other implements.

The parallel account in 2 Samuel 8:8 calls the city Berothai, suggesting either an alternate name or a scribal variant. Chun's precise location in ancient Syria remains uncertain, though it lay within the territory David brought under Israelite suzerainty during his campaigns north of Damascus. The city's contribution to the temple furnishings, though indirect, gives it a permanent place in the narrative of Solomon's building program.
