Cyril of Jerusalem

Cyril of Jerusalem (c. 313–386), bishop of Jerusalem, is best known for his Catechetical Lectures — a series of pre-baptismal and mystagogical instructions delivered around 350 ad. These lectures expound the Creed article by article, offer one of the earliest extant accounts of the sacraments of baptism and the Eucharist, and quote the NT lavishly. His insistence on the unity of the divine nature and his defence of the term homoousios placed him firmly in the Nicene camp, though he expressed this in terms of the East's pastoral tradition. He was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1882.
