Daemon

Daemon (from Greek daimōn) is an alternative transliteration of the word rendered demon in most English versions. In classical Greek the term denoted a spirit of intermediate rank between gods and mortals, sometimes benevolent in Greek thought, but in the New Testament exclusively applied to malevolent spiritual beings subject to Satan. They are portrayed as being cast out by Jesus's authority (Matthew 8:16; 12:43) and by his disciples (Matthew 10:1), and they acknowledge Jesus's divine identity while trembling (James 2:19). The New Testament consistently distinguishes daemons as personal, intelligent, evil spirits distinct from Satan himself, who exercise influence over individuals and in some instances over geographic territories.
