Damaris

Damaris (meaning a little woman) was a woman of Athens who believed in response to Paul's sermon on the Areopagus (Acts 17:34). She is mentioned alongside Dionysius the Areopagite as one of the few named converts from that occasion. Nothing further is recorded about her in Scripture. Her specific mention by name alongside a member of the Areopagus court suggests she may have been a woman of some social standing or prominence. The sermon at the Areopagus, addressing Athenian philosophy and the unknown god, was among Paul's most intellectually engaging encounters and produced few converts compared with his synagogue preaching.
