Darda
Person Name
Name meaning: "home of knowledge"
Darda (meaning home of knowledge) was one of four men of renowned wisdom against whom Solomon's incomparable wisdom was measured (1 Kings 4:31). He is listed alongside Ethan the Ezrahite, Heman, and Calcol as sons of Mahol. In 1 Chronicles 2:6, Dara (a variant spelling) appears among the five sons of Zerah of the tribe of Judah. Whether these are the same individual or distinct persons is debated. Darda is otherwise unknown to Scripture; his fame was evidently proverbial in the ancient Near Eastern wisdom tradition, used to set a standard that Solomon surpassed.
