Dart

Darts in Scripture denote light thrown projectiles — javelins, arrows, or short spears used in ancient warfare. The term appears in several notable contexts. The "fiery darts" of the evil one described in Ephesians 6:16 are burning arrows — possibly fire-tipped projectiles — which faith is said to quench as a shield. This metaphor describes spiritual attacks of doubt, temptation, and accusation launched against the believer. In Deuteronomy 32:23–42, God's arrows and darts represent divine judgment on Israel's enemies. The physical dart also appears in the account of Absalom's death when Joab drove three darts (javelins) into his heart as he hung in the oak tree (2 Samuel 18:14).
