Daysman

Daysman (from the archaic English umpire or arbitrator) translates the Hebrew mokiach in Job 9:33 — one who argues between parties or lays his hand on both, acting as a mediating judge. Job despairs that there is no such arbiter between himself and God who could lay a hand on both parties, negotiate their dispute, and bring resolution. The concept anticipates the New Testament understanding of Christ as the one mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5) who fulfills the role Job lacked — capable of touching both the divine and human sides of humanity's broken relationship with God because of his unique person as the God-man.
