Delilah

Delilah (meaning languishing, poor, or head of hair) was a Philistine woman living in the Valley of Sorek who was bribed by the five Philistine lords — each offering 1,100 pieces of silver — to discover the source of Samson's supernatural strength and the means of overcoming it (Judges 16:4–20). After three failed attempts using false answers from Samson, Delilah wore him down through persistent pleading until he disclosed that his strength lay in his uncut hair, the sign of his Nazirite vow. She then had his head shaved while he slept on her knees, and the Philistines captured and blinded him. Her name has become proverbial in Western culture for a treacherous woman who betrays a powerful man through intimacy. Samson's final act of strength, bringing down the pillars of the temple of Dagon (Judges 16:28–30), more than compensated for all his captured years.
