Diadem

Diadem in Scripture refers to a royal headdress or turban signifying authority and dignity, distinct from the crown (kether) in Hebrew thought. The high priest's turban included a diadem-like ornament (Ezekiel 21:26; Isaiah 28:5). Job used the imagery of wearing justice as a robe and his turban (tsanif) as a diadem to describe his former role as an advocate for the poor and needy (Job 29:14). In prophetic literature, God himself is described as a diadem of beauty to his people (Isaiah 28:5), and the restored Zion will hold a royal diadem in the LORD's hand (Isaiah 62:3). In the New Testament, the Greek diadema (as opposed to stephanos, the victor's wreath) designates the royal crown worn by the dragon (Revelation 12:3), the beast (Revelation 13:1), and the conquering Christ (Revelation 19:12), marking sovereign dominion.
