Dizahab

Dizahab (meaning region of gold) was a place mentioned in the opening verse of Deuteronomy (Deut. 1:1) as one of the landmarks near which Moses delivered his final address to Israel: "in the Arabah, opposite Suph, between Paran and Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth, and Dizahab." The precise list appears to situate the speech in the wilderness east of the Jordan in the plains of Moab, though the individual locations are difficult to identify with certainty.

Dizahab's exact position has not been confirmed, with most proposals placing it either in the Sinai Peninsula or in the Arabah south of the Dead Sea. Smith suggests it may be on the western shore of the Gulf of Aqaba. It receives no other mention in the biblical narrative, and no archaeological identification has been proposed with confidence. Its name's association with gold may reflect the presence of mineral resources in the region or simply preserve an ancient local designation.
