Dodo

Dodo (meaning his uncle or beloved) is the name of three biblical figures: (1) a man of Issachar, grandfather of Tola who judged Israel twenty-three years after Abimelech (Judg. 10:1); (2) an Ahohite of the tribe of Benjamin, father of Eleazar—one of David's three greatest military heroes, who single-handedly held the field against the Philistines at Pas-dammim until his hand cleaved to his sword, with David and the people attributing the victory to the LORD (2 Sam. 23:9–10; 1 Chr. 11:12); and (3) a Bethlehemite, father of Elhanan, another of David's thirty mighty men (2 Sam. 23:24).

The same Ahohite figure appears in 1 Chronicles 27:4 as Dodai, commander of the second monthly division of David's army. The name's occurrence across Issacharian, Benjamite, and Judahite families within a relatively short span suggests it was a name in common use in Israel during the pre-monarchic and early monarchic periods.
