Draught-house

Draught-house (a privy or latrine) appears in 2 Kings 10:27, where Jehu ordered the temple of Baal at Samaria to be demolished after executing its worshippers, and the building converted into a draught-house—a public latrine. This act represented a supreme form of ritual desecration, permanently defiling the former sacred site and rendering it physically contemptible. Jehu's program of destroying Baal worship included both judicial execution of Baal's prophets and priests and this symbolic humiliation of the worship space itself.

In Matthew 15:17 and Mark 7:19, Jesus uses the same concept (translated "draught" or "sewer") in his teaching on defilement: whatever enters the mouth passes through the stomach and is expelled into the latrine, demonstrating that food cannot make a person spiritually unclean—and thus implicitly declaring all foods clean. The contrast between what passes through the body and what proceeds from the heart defines true defilement.
