Ebed

Ebed (meaning a servant or laborer) is the name of two individuals in the Old Testament. The more notable is the father of Gaal, in whom the men of Shechem placed their confidence during the rebellion against Abimelech (Judges 9:26–41). Gaal son of Ebed stirred up the citizens of Shechem against Abimelech's rule, boasting that he would overthrow him — only to be driven from the city when Zebul, Abimelech's officer, warned his master and Abimelech returned to crush the rebellion. The second Ebed is mentioned in Ezra 8:6 as the father of Jotham, one of the heads of the returning exiles who accompanied Ezra from Babylon.
