Eder
Place Name
Name meaning: "a flock"
Eder (meaning flock) is the name of a city in the south of Judah near the border of Idumea (Edom), listed in Joshua 15:21 among the southernmost towns of the tribe of Judah. It is also the name of a descendant of Beriah in the genealogies of Benjamin (1 Chronicles 8:15) and a Levite in the time of Hezekiah (1 Chronicles 23:23; 24:30). The city of Eder lay in the Negev region — the semi-arid southern zone of Judah that bordered Edom — and would have been a modest settlement in a sparsely populated frontier area.
