Elasah

Elasah (meaning the doings of God or God has made) is the name of two individuals in the Old Testament. The first is a son of Helez, descendant of Judah from the family of Hezron (1 Chronicles 2:39–40). The second, and more historically notable, is Elasah son of Shaphan, who was one of the two envoys sent by King Zedekiah to King Nebuchadnezzar in Babylon — and who carried the famous letter of Jeremiah to the Jewish exiles in Babylon instructing them to settle in the land, seek its welfare, and not believe the false prophets who promised quick return (Jeremiah 29:3). This Elasah came from the family of Shaphan, which was generally sympathetic to Jeremiah's ministry. Ezra 10:22 also lists an Elasah among those who had married foreign wives and agreed to put them away.
