Eliphalet

Person Name

Name meaning: "God of deliverance"

Eliphalet (meaning God his deliverance) is the name of two of David's sons born in Jerusalem (2 Samuel 5:16; 1 Chronicles 14:7). The first, also called Elpelet (1 Chronicles 14:5), is numbered among the children born to David after he established his capital in Jerusalem. A second son also named Eliphalet appears in the same list — a situation some scholars attribute to the death of the first son and David naming a subsequent son the same name. An Eliphalet also appears in Ezra 8:13 as a son of Adonikam who returned with Ezra to Jerusalem from Babylon, and another in Ezra 10:33 among those who had married foreign wives.
