Elipheleh

Person

Elipheleh was a Levite musician appointed by David to play "on the Alamoth" (soprano strings or flutes — an instrument of higher pitch) in the procession that brought the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem (1 Chronicles 15:18, 21). He is listed among the gatekeepers and second-tier musicians in David's elaborate musical organization for the worship of the tabernacle. The term Alamoth appears in the subscription of Psalm 46 and indicates a particular mode or instrument type, though its precise meaning remains debated by scholars.
