Elishaphat

Elishaphat son of Zichri was one of the five military commanders recruited by the priest Jehoiada to support the coup that overthrew the usurper Queen Athaliah and placed the young king Joash on the throne of Judah. His name means my God hath judged, and his role in the conspiracy was to command one of the corps of Levites and palace guards who secured the temple and palace precincts during the coronation.

The account in 2 Chronicles 23 describes how Jehoiada organized the priests and Levites into rotating companies, arming them from David's stored weapons in the temple. Elishaphat's participation represents the alliance of military loyalty and priestly authority that restored the Davidic line after Athaliah's six-year reign. He is mentioned only in this single episode and otherwise unknown in the biblical record.
