Ellasar

Ellasar was the kingdom of Arioch, one of the four kings who defeated the five kings of the cities of the plain in the war described in Genesis 14. The identification of Ellasar has been extensively debated among biblical geographers and Assyriologists. One prominent theory equates it with Larsa, the ancient Babylonian city in southern Mesopotamia that was a major power in the early second millennium BC.

Alternatively, some scholars have associated Ellasar with Ilansura in northern Mesopotamia or with Assur itself. The Genesis 14 narrative is one of the most historically complex passages in the Pentateuch, involving a coalition of eastern kings raiding as far as the Negev and the Dead Sea region, and the identities of their home territories remain uncertain. Whatever its precise location, Ellasar stands as one of the eastern powers that Genesis presents as having had their reach interrupted by Abraham's intervention on behalf of Lot.
