Elon

Elon (Hebrew ʾêlôn, meaning oak or strong) is shared by several figures in the Old Testament. The most notable was Elon the Zebulunite, who judged Israel for ten years before dying and being buried at Aijalon in Zebulun. He is one of the so-called minor judges, described with minimal narrative detail in Judges 12:11–12, standing between the figures of Ibzan and Abdon in the list. His judgeship represents a period of relative stability in the tribal confederation.

Other bearers of the name include: a son of Zebulun and ancestor of the Elonite clan (Genesis 46:14; Numbers 26:26); a Hittite whose daughter Adah was one of Esau's wives (Genesis 26:34); and Elon-beth-hanan, a town in the second administrative district of Solomon's kingdom (1 Kings 4:9). The multiple instances of the name reflect its common usage as a personal name derived from the widespread oak tree, a natural landmark and symbol of strength in the landscape of ancient Palestine.
