Etham

Etham (meaning their strength or their sign) was the second stopping place of the Israelites after leaving Egypt, at the edge of the wilderness (Exodus 13:20; Numbers 33:6–8). It was located at the eastern edge of the Nile delta region, where the cultivated land of Egypt gave way to the desert of the Sinai Peninsula. From Etham the Israelites were redirected to encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, in the episode leading to the crossing of the Red Sea. The exact location of Etham remains uncertain, but it is associated with the ancient fortification line guarding Egypt's eastern frontier.
