Eutychus

Eutychus (meaning happy or fortunate) was a young man of Troas who fell asleep during Paul's extended teaching late into the night and fell from a third-story window, being taken up dead (Acts 20:9). Paul went down, embraced him, and declared that his life was in him — and the young man was found alive. The episode occurred during a Sunday evening gathering at which the church broke bread and Paul spoke until midnight. The miracle closely parallels Elijah's raising of the widow's son (1 Kings 17:21) and Elisha's restoration of the Shunammite's son (2 Kings 4:34). It is the final miracle recorded in Paul's missionary journeys and confirms his apostolic authority. Ironically, the young man's name (fortunate) proved apt in the end.
