Eve

Eve (Hebrew Chavvah, meaning living or life-giver) was the first woman, formed by God from Adam's rib while he slept and brought to him as a partner and companion (Genesis 2:21–22). Adam named her Woman (ishah) upon their first meeting, recognizing her as "bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh" (Genesis 2:23), and later called her Eve, "because she was the mother of all living" (Genesis 3:20). In the Garden of Eden she was deceived by the serpent and ate the forbidden fruit, then gave to Adam who also ate — an act that brought sin, shame, and death into human experience (Genesis 3:1–7). God pronounced the first gospel promise in response, that the offspring of the woman would crush the serpent's head (Genesis 3:15). She bore Cain and Abel and later Seth (Genesis 4:1–2; 25). Paul cites her deception as both historical event and theological paradigm (2 Corinthians 11:3; 1 Timothy 2:13–14).
