Ezrahite
Ezrahite is a term appearing in the superscriptions of Psalms 88 and 89, where it describes Heman the Ezrahite (Psalm 88) and Ethan the Ezrahite (Psalm 89), both renowned for their wisdom (1 Kings 4:31; 1 Chronicles 2:6). The meaning of Ezrahite is debated: it may mean a descendant of Zerah son of Judah (connecting these men to the Judahite genealogy in 1 Chronicles 2:6), or it may be a clan designation related to an otherwise unknown ancestor. The parallel between "sons of Mahol" in 1 Kings 4:31 and "sons of Zerah" in 1 Chronicles 2:6 suggests they were Judahites, though the Levitical Heman (1 Chronicles 6:33) has been proposed as a separate individual from the Ezrahite Heman of Psalm 88. The title underscores the antiquity and prestige of these psalmists.
