Gabatha

Gabatha appears in the additions to the book of Esther (Esther 12:1 in the Septuagint; Apocrypha) as the name of one of the two eunuchs — along with Tharra — who conspired against King Artaxerxes (Ahasuerus) and were exposed by Mordecai. This corresponds to the Bigthana/Bigthan and Teresh conspiracy of the Hebrew text of Esther 2:21–23, where Mordecai overheard the plot, reported it to Esther who told the king, and the conspirators were hanged on the gallows — an act that was recorded in the chronicles of the king and later rewarded when Ahasuerus honored Mordecai (Esther 6:1–3). The expanded Greek text of Esther provides additional names and details not in the Hebrew original. Gabatha is thus the Greek name for one of the plotters whose exposure secured Mordecai's future standing.
