Gibeah

Gibeah (meaning a hill) was a town in the territory of Benjamin, best known as "Gibeah of Saul" — the hometown and base of Israel's first king (1 Sam. 10:26; 11:4; Isa. 10:29). The site is identified with modern Tell el-Ful, approximately three miles north of Jerusalem. Gibeah became infamous earlier in Israelite history for a horrific act of gang violence against a Levite's concubine, an outrage that triggered a civil war in which the tribe of Benjamin was nearly annihilated (Judg. 19–20). Despite this dark legacy, it was Saul's residence and the administrative center of his kingdom. The site has also been identified with "Gibeah of Judah" in some interpretations, though that is generally treated as a separate location.
